From 1 January 2010 a new system workplace relations system covers the majority of businesses in Australia and applies nationally. The national system has a number of features that employers and employees must make sure they comply with, including: a set of 10 minimum National Employment Standards (NES) , modern awards that apply nationally for specific industries and occupations, a national minimum wage order, and protection from unfair dismissal.
